Book Tips for Parents

BEAR LISTENS   By Robert Cutting

This book is the story of Bear who learns valuable lessons from Mother Earth, the Moon, Sun, Water and Trees.

When reading with your child…

1. Look carefully at the illustrations. Ask them to find the Moon, the Sun, the Water, the Lake, the Food, and the Trees. 

2. Ask your child these questions: What do the trees give? What does Mother Earth give? What does the Moon give? What does the bear learn?

3. Play the matching game. Cut the matching game cards on the dotted lines. Find the matching pictures in the book that match the cards.

4. Play another matching game by turning over the matching cards. Use your memory to find two pictures that are the same.  Continue until all the matching cards are matched.

5. Talk about wisdom and what it means to you, your family and your child. Help you child understand how the Bear listens to the wisdom of the others.  (See pages 14 and 15).

6. Help your child make connections to the environment and the importance of caring for it.

Children are natural storytellers. Tell stories together at home, on your walks outside and when traveling together.
